There is something so romantic about a winter wedding. Twinkle lights, evergreen details, and rich winter hues create a setting that feels warm, intimate, and timeless. Sarah and Connor’s wedding day was all of that and more: a beautiful celebration that felt completely and uniquely them.

This wedding was especially meaningful to me because Sarah and I grew up together. We played on the same soccer team from the time I was 10 until my sophomore year of high school, with her father coaching us for three of those years together. A year older than me, Sarah kindly took me under her wing and eventually became my soccer “big.” She was such a wonderful guide to me throughout some of my most formative years, so when she reached out for help planning her wedding, it felt like such a full-circle moment. Getting to support someone who had once been that person for me was incredibly special.

Sarah and Connor met at WVU, although Connor had actually attended our high school, too! It wasn't until years later, during their undergraduate years, that they truly got to know each other. The rest, as they say, is history.

A Winter Wedding at Bella Sera Event Villa

Sarah and Connor chose Bella Sera Event Villa as the backdrop for their celebration, and it was the perfect setting for their romantic winter wedding. If you're looking for a venue that offers a variety of spaces for any celebration, Bella Sera has so much to offer. From the getting-ready suite and outdoor ceremony space to the patio for cocktail hour, beautiful foyer for an indoor gathering, and vast reception room, the venue offers plenty of opportunities to create an experience that feels entirely your own.

Sarah and Connor embraced the season with a palette of rich reds, greenery, crisp whites, and gold accents. The combination complemented Bella Sera's Tuscan-inspired aesthetic beautifully, creating a look that felt festive without losing its elegance.

And for a January wedding in Pittsburgh, the weather was surprisingly lovely! Although the temperatures were chilly, the sun made an appearance and gave us the most beautiful light for portraits. It was such a sweet reminder that even a winter wedding can offer those gorgeous outdoor moments.

The Details That Told Their Story

Some of my favorite wedding details are the ones that tell you a little more about the couple, and Sarah and Connor incorporated so many meaningful touches throughout their day.

Their framed seating chart featured photographs of the two of them throughout the years, giving guests a glimpse into their story. Because they love playing card games together, they also chose a deck of cards as their guest book, inviting guests to leave little messages they could revisit long after their wedding day.

One of our the larger projects of the morning was assembling their boxwood backdrop and attaching the neon sign displaying “The Andersons.” Seeing all of those pieces come together was such a fun part of the setup, and the finished backdrop made a statement at the reception.

These are the kinds of details I love most: elements that are not only beautiful, but also have a story behind them.

A First Look Before the Ceremony

Sarah and Connor chose to share a first look before their ceremony, with Connor making his way down the stairs toward Sarah. It was such a beautiful, intimate moment before the excitement of the day began.

Deciding whether or not to have a first look is one of the questions couples often consider when building their wedding timeline. While there is no right or wrong choice, I often recommend a first look for couples planning a later ceremony. It can create more flexibility for portraits, allow you to spend more of the day together, and give you a quiet moment to take everything in before joining your guests. And no, the “big aisle reveal” is never ruined! It is just as special because that is THE moment.

For Sarah and Connor, it was such a lovely way to begin their wedding day together.

Their ceremony took place at Ruthfred Lutheran Church, the church where Sarah grew up. The chapel was beautiful, and celebrating their marriage in a place with so much personal history made the ceremony even more meaningful.

Let’s Get the Party Started!

While the families finished up portraits, our team returned to Bella Sera to prepare for cocktail hour and put the final touches on the reception space. As guests arrived, we made sure everything was ready before welcoming them into the room.

One of the fun features of Bella Sera is the grand entrance from the staircase, which made the transition for the wedding party into the reception feel larger than life. From there, the evening was filled with dancing, Pittsburgh Cookie Table favorites, and a hot cocoa bar that was perfect for a cozy winter wedding. (Shoutout to Cannon Cookies for providing a little bit of Yinzer spirit to the table!)

But one of my favorite moments of the entire evening was a special slow dance to “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, performed by Connor’s siblings on cello and vocals. It was such a personal, heartfelt addition to the celebration and one of those moments that made the evening feel even more meaningful. And might I add, what a great song choice!

A Full-Circle Moment

Sarah and Connor’s wedding was such a beautiful celebration of their love, their history, and the people who mean the most to them. From the thoughtful personal details to the winter-inspired design and the moments shared with family, every part of the day felt intentional.

For me, it was also a reminder of how special this work is. Getting to guide Sarah through such an important season of her life, after she had once guided me through one of mine, was an honor I won't forget.

Sarah and Connor, thank you for trusting our team with your wedding day and allowing us to be part of such a meaningful chapter in your story. It was a joy to celebrate you both!
